Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. As a child, she went to at the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma was six years old when she realized she wanted to be an actor. She trained for several years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a Part-time theatre school located in Oxford where she studied acting and singing. By the age of ten she was performing and taking as the main character in several Stagecoach productions and school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 version from J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book was released in 1999. Emma was discovered by casting agents via Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint after 8 auditions. They were chosen to play the three lead characters Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. Emma's first film appearance came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). It was the year's top earning film, smashing records on opening day and first weekend. The critics were impressed by the performance of the film as well as its story. The Daily Telegraph, an important British publication, described Emma's performance "amazing". In the following days, Emma was nominated for five awards for her role in the film winning the Young Artist Award for Leading Actress Young in the feature Film.
